Strategic Initiatives Conference
2026

SIGAP is grateful to the University of Toronto for hosting the 2026 Strategic Initiatives Conference (SIC) from Sunday, August 9 - Tuesday, August 11, 2026. 

​

At each conference, we aim to provide meaningful discussions where lessons learned are analyzed and shared in a replicable way. Previous topics have included: 

  • Insights on the largest SI gifts of recent years, including presentations by peers

  • An analysis of the evolution of strategic initiatives from faculty-, school-, or president-led priorities 

  • Best practices for launching, engaging, and sunsetting strategic initiatives 

  • Due diligence and scrutiny of complex gift structures

  • Inter-institutional and multi-institutional SI gift collaborations

  • Designing for effective SI governance 

  • Emerging trends in strategic initiatives at international universities​

Location: University of Toronto, St. George Campus - 27 King's College Cir, Toronto, ON M5S 1A1

  

Preferred Airport: Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)

  

Hotel: A room block is available at the Kimpton Saint George Hotel, 280 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M5S 1V8, with a nightly rate of $314 CAD.  Please book under the room block by Wednesday, July 8, 2026 to secure the special rate.

  

Conference Fee: $1,600 USD/$2,250 CAN

Sunday, August 9th:

4:00pm – 5:00pm – Newcomers Session

5:00pm – 7:00pm – Welcome Session and Reception

  

Monday, August 10th:

8:30am – Day Sessions Begin

5:00pm – Day Sessions End

6:00pm – Evening Session Begins

9:00pm – Evening Session Ends

  

Tuesday, August 11th:

8:30am – Day Sessions Begin

1:00pm – Conference Concludes

  

This is an event by invitation only, convening a group of approximately 60 leading professionals. They are specifically selected based on their application. All prospective participants, including previous attendees, must submit this application to be considered each year. The call for applications will be issued in the spring of 2026.

In support of our culture of keeping conversations in the room, which allows for open and candid participation, a remote/hybrid option is not offered, nor are sessions recorded.
